Freedom from Overwhelm

I’ve decided to leave the habit of social media scrolling all together, or at least to take a very long break (perhaps four years or more).

It’s time to return to my center of peace.

This does not mean that I will not be taking action to do what I can to ensure that my country continues to be a democracy. I will still be making regular calls to my congress reps to ensure that my voice is heard and taking any other steps that feel like inspired action to my soul.

It has been difficult lately for me to stay grounded and centered. I know that the best decisions happen from a place of calm for me, so I have spent some time regrouping today.

First by grounding into my values of love and freedom. Then by identifying what has been throwing me off kilter.

I don’t usually post anything political on my Facebook page, but lately I have been sharing many things of a political nature. Things that I feel are helpful - as far as what is happening and what actions people can take if so chosen.

Scrolling to find these things has been especially draining. Yesterday, I re-posted something that turned out to be untrue. Shortly thereafter, I was informed by a friend, and I immediately deleted the post and thanked him for letting me know. This is too exhausting for me and not really in my best interest.

Today, I worked with a coach to figure out how I can do both – stay in peace AND take action.

Here is what I am doing:

  • I have a plan for exactly when and how many calls I will make each week.

  • I will take other political actions as they arise and as my body compass nudges me to do.

  • I will not be ingesting any social media (I quit mainstream news decades ago).

  • I will continue to work with a coach in addition to my therapist.

  • I will do some sort of play or creating of art daily (I will decide what that it is through my morning meditation practice).

  • I am increasing my time out in nature.

  • I will get plenty of physical activity, rest, and hydration.

To help others:

  • I am creating space in my schedule to coach a couple more clients.

  • I am getting back on the Crisis Text Line platform and will be once again counseling texters through crisis.

I hope you find some inspiration in this post to rethink how you are caring for yourself and the world around you. ♥
